Use the corners as preparation

Purpose

Train the rider to use the full geometry of the arena to organize before related distances and combinations.

Setup

Course of 4 single fences with related distances. Cones in each corner.

Step-by-step
  1. 01Ride past the cone, then around it — never inside it.
  2. 02Use the corner to half-halt, rebalance, and set rhythm.
  3. 03Reward yourself: deep corner = jump that comes up.
  4. 04Do the course three times in a row.
Common mistakes
  • Cutting corners on tired horses.
  • Drifting in toward the next fence.
  • Half-halting in the corner with the rein instead of the seat.

Every fence comes out of a deliberate, rebalanced canter.
